Why did the American active anode material producers file antidumping and countervailing duty petitions?

The American Active Anode Material Producers filed antidumping and countervailing duty petitions on Dec. 18, 2024, with the U.S. Department of Commerce and International Trade Commission to address alleged unfair imports of active anode material from China, with claimed dumping margins of 828 percent and 921 percent.

What is a dumping investigation?

Under U.S. law, domestic industries can request AD investigations to determine whether imported products are being sold in the U.S. at less than fair value, known as "dumping." They can also seek CVD investigations to examine whether foreign producers are receiving unfair subsidies from their governments.

Is artificial graphite a tariff on EV & ESS?

Under the sweeping Sec. 301 tariffs against Chinese goods, artificial graphite is currently excluded, but natural graphite was added to the tariff list in Sept. 2024, and a 25% tariff rate is set to go into effect on natural graphite on Jan. 1, 2026. Regardless, AAAMP is asking for a deeper look at AAM used in the EV and ESS market.
